Welcome to South West Lancashire

the home of the Ormskirk & District Family History Society.

We are pleased to announce the 700,000 visit to our website was made on Monday 4th February 2013.

The area we cover is green on the diagram opposite & includes Aughton, Bickerstaffe, Burscough, Downholland, Halsall, Hesketh with Becconsall, Lathom, Lydiate, Maghull, Melling, Ormskirk, Rufford, Scarisbrick, Simonswood, Skelmersdale and Tarleton. Many local places were first named by Vikings.

We meet on the 4th Wednesday of each month (excluding December when there is no meeting) at the Guide HQ, Moorgate, Ormskirk at 8.00pm with various speakers and topics (see the meetings page for future meeting details). Free to members. Non-members are very welcome, we request a fee of �1 from visitors.

Our Research Library is now located at the Scout Hall, Wigan Road, Ormskirk please see the 'Library' link which has a map of the area, showing the locations of both the Guide HQ and Scout Hall.

You can email us on secretary[at]odfhs.org.uk, (change the [at] to @ in the email).

For queries other than about our Society can Members quote their Membership Number otherwise a Donation would be greatly appreciated!

We publish 3 journals a year, we have items for sale to aid research - something for everyone! What can start out as a curiosity can end up as a rewarding hobby!
