I am not a member as yet, however, a search of the messages brought up message 31 on page 04 regarding the Baldwins of Burscough.

Tracing my family has found that the Baldwins are related to the Phillips's on my Grandmothers Side.

I have a Great Grandfather called Edward Baldwin and he was a boatman in Burscough, he married Margaret Dutton and therefore I would be interested in getting in contact with the originator of the above Message.

Many Regards

Hi Brian,
Re your message on the Ormskirk & District FHS website about Peter & Elizabeth Rawsthorne, Peter appears to be living with his father, Peter, in 1881 in Aughton.
Do you have any further information on Elizabeth? I see from FreeBMD that she was Elizabeth Ann Bibby and they married at Liverpool in 1886.

Might the place in question be Bickerstaffe? www.lan-opc.org.uk has a baptism for a Margaret Myers at St Peter & St Paul Ormskirk in 1798 where the abode was recorded as Bickerstaffe. It is possible that it was recorded on the census by someone who was unfamiliar with the area and rendered it as Brinkister.

Hi

I am researching Margaret Myers whos place of birth is showing on the 1851 census as Brinkister, I can find no trace of this location, however all her other records show her POB as being Ormskirk. Is there anywhere in Ormskirk with a name similar to Brinkister?

Many thanks Jo (johorridge[at]talktalk.net)

Looks like Charles Goore and Gore are one and the same. Most of the childrens' births are listed on Lancs OPC and the spelling changes from Goore to Gore between these two baptisms -

Baptism: 25 Jan 1833 St Peter and St Paul, Ormskirk
James Goore - Son of Charles Goore & Alice
Occupation: Cabinet Maker

Baptism: 22 Dec 1838 St Peter and St Paul, Ormskirk
Alice Gore - Daughter of Charles Gore & Alice
Occupation: Cabinet Maker

I've emailed you a longer list. Best wishes - Keith Jenkins (pennyjenks[at]btinternet.com)

I have a marriage certificate for Ormskirk,no.159 of 1869.This is the marriage of Joseph Balshaw of Aughton(son of William Balshaw,Paviour) to Alice Gore of Ormskirk(daughter of Charles Gore,Deceased). My problem is,is Alice the same one that lives with her father Charles, mother Alice and siblings William,Ann,James,Mary and John at Moor St.,Ormskirk on the 1841 census? A Charles GOORE died period July-Sept 1842 at Ormskirk Vol 21,Page 313.I am researching for my father-in-law,William Balshaw Goore of Blackburn.I would appreciate any thoughts on the subject of one "O",or two.

Searching for Charles Kenneth Whitehurst and Edith May Bibby

I am urgently searching for anyone with information about these two people, who married in Ormskirk Methodist Chapel on 14th Feb 1934. In particular I'm searching for details of when and where either are buried. This information is needed for a close relative of the pair for whom time is very short.

Any information would be gratefully received,

Many thanks

I am researching my grandmother's family, the Whalley's, who lived around the Halsall area of Lancashire. She and some of her siblings were baptised at Our Lady's RC church in Lydiate.

I have fairly accurate records from 1880. Many links to other families have cropped up and I would be interested in hearing from anyone with similar connections. Family names include Woodcock, Rimmer, Bold, Holland, Culshaw, Wilson, Leatherbarrow, Furlong and Apperley.
