Hello Fiona
You might have tried these options already, but the Lancashire Online Parish Clerks site does have a burial for an Agnes Harrison aged 78 "of Aughton" at St. Michael's Church, on 6 Jun 1869. That would tie in with her estimated year of birth being 1791. (Possibly there could be a gravestone for Agnes and John there.)
(Oddly enough, in 1861 she has a servant named Alice Hodge aged 65 with her, who I think is an ancestor of mine - she was the child of John and Elizabeth Hodge. Ten years before this same Alice appears to be a servant to a George Harrison b.1822 Aughton. I checked to see if his baptism was on the Lancs OPC site and his parents are indeed John and Agnes Harrison.)
There are a few children born to parents John and Agnes Harrison after c.1812 on that site if you use the search facility and at one stage the father is said to be a footman so that might be a hint that he was in service to somebody's family. Interestingly, the children that do come up are baptised both in Aughton and in various places near Lancaster.
As far as the noble connections go, The Peerage website might be worth browsing, just to see whether there are any Ratcliffes from the Lancaster area.

Ratcliffe family.
Researching my ancestor, Lady Agnes Ratcliffe, described as born 1791 in Cockerham, Lancs, brought up at Woodplumpton Hall and living in later life in Aughton, Lancashire. Her father is described as a "Lost Earl of Derwentwater". Lady Agnes ran off with the coachman, John Harrison, whom she married, and they moved to his family home of Aughton. Any help gratefully received.

My Gt. Gt. Grandmother was Elizabeth DOBSON
My Gt. Grandmother was Catherine DOBSON, she had 3 illigitimate children.
Her third child was Teresa DOBSON (1864-1885) They were all in Scarisbrick.
In 1881 Theresa was living in Appley Bridge, Wrightington as Niece to Edward & Elizabeth CLARKSON.

Speakman search
I am looking for the family of Esther Speakman. She married Henry Massam on 4th March 1810, in Scarisbrick with witnesses Henry Dobson, Mary Speakman and Helen Speakman.
I know that Esther died in 1813, and her infant son James Massam was taken by an aunt to live with his grandfather in Wrightington. The source did not specify whether the aunt was married or was an aunt by marriage.
I speculate that Esthers parents were Thomas and Ann Speakman and Esther had sisters Mary (born 1787 - 1791), Elizabeth (born 1782 - 1786) and Dorothy (born 1792 - 1796) so I am searching for birth records of Esther and these ladies - does anyone have information about them?
Reasons for the speculation:
1. Thomas and Ann were active as godparents in the RC parish of Scarisbrick (1785 - 1787) at a time which would correspond to them being a young married couple at the guessed time of Esther' birth and in the years just before the births of Mary Elizabeth and Dorothy.
2. Mary Elizabeth and Dorothy were living together at Wrightington Coal Gate in the 1841 census.
3. On 26 Aug 1782, a Thomas Speakman of Dalton married Ann Bullen of Holland at Wigan All Saints (Maybe a repeat marriage following a private RC marriage?).
4. There was a large Bullen family in Scarisbrick.

Hough family tragedy?
As part of my ongoing research for our new canal families website (www.boatfamilies.org.uk) I have discovered what seems to be a family tragedy. Boatman William Hough, 63, of Lathom, his wife Mary, 54, and their children John, 32, and Margaret, 23, all died in 1866 and appear in the burial register for St John the Baptist, Burscough, interred within nine days of each other between August 25 and September 5. Does anyone know the story behind this, perhaps a canal disaster?

I am currently researching the family history of the Rigby family in Freckleton and have traced them back to Lathom, Ormskirk. I have a Thomas Rigby b.1807/8 born in Lathom and I think his father was a Robert Marsden Rigby b.1756 in Lathom. Records show Roberts parents as John and Mary but some sources say Peter and Mary. Can anyone clarify this for me? Many thanks.

Eddie, you may be interested in the March meeting of the Society at which we will be launching a canal families website. I think your great-grandfather is already in the database, Edward Baldwin b Lathom 1876, son of Richard Baldwin (boatman) and Elizabeth Gregson.
I see a marriage at St John's, Burscough, Q1 1904, between Edward Baldwin and Margaret Dutton, and a 1911 Census entry for Edward and Margaret in Victoria St, Burscough, with four daughters. We have a Margaret Dutton, b Lathom 1879, daughter of James Dutton (boatman) and Winifred Watkinson.
It would be good if you could confirm or add to any of these details so we can include this marriage. I'm not the originator of Message 31, but you can email me on pennyjenks[at]btinternet.com
Care is needed as there's another Edward Baldwin b1874 Burscough (boatman) who married Margaret Langton.
We also have an 1894 marriage at St Nicholas, Liverpool, between William Baldwin and Agnes Phillips - maybe coincidence?
