24 October: Ormskirk Library Visit - Demonstration & Exhibition
Our visit to Ormskirk Library began at 7.30pm. The staff including Mrs Rita McWilliams and Mrs Sheila Gallagher had brought out a vast quantity of materials for us to look at. Nearly all the material is normally kept in the stacks and to have it all in front of us was a treat. These materials consisted of the Goad maps showing which shop premises were being used for what business, Tithe Maps, Ordnance Survey Maps, photographs and post cards of the area, articles and pieces written, but not published, by various local people. We also had the opportunity to go onto the computers and into Ancestry.com to look at the data base which proved very popular as well as the microfilm and microfiche collection of census and parish register material. The visit proved so popular that we are having another in April this time for members only.
